It only took 30 years, but I am now the proud owner of my very own library card! A statement deserving of an exclaimation point from this grandma. As a kid, we’d always get books from our local library and one of my favorite things was to hang out there instead of at my mom’s work (because what’s a babysitter?) but I’ve never had my own card until a few days ago.
There’s a new(ish, because I’m late to the game) library in town and when I pulled up, I felt like I was on vacation in a different town. Welcome to 2017, Kim. Self-checkouts! A drive-through pickup window! iPads to look up the catalog!
In the past, I’ve always bought books when I want to read them, which has actually worked out okay since I only read about .8 books every year. Like most people, I’ve wanted to indulge in less social media + more reading, so I figured I needed to start somewhere. I’ve tried the Kindle route, but there’s nothing better than holding a book and flipping the pages, and I just couldn’t get into the whole staring at one more screen thing. I checked out three books for myself & one for Michael, and with our longest flight (longest for me, ever!) coming up in a few weeks, it seems like a pretty good way to get some reading time in.
I’ve already been finding a ton of book recos on some of my favorite blogs, but if you have any suggestions, let me know!
