I’m late to the game here for two reasons: apparently Thursday last week was National Pizza Day so this would have been a fitting post to kickoff with, and also because I had every intention of posting daily for a week leading up to the 14th and here we are the night before and I’m on my second post. Whatever. Still relevant to the series, especially since Michael and I actually went to Graffiato for Valentine’s Day dinner last year, is our (not so recent anymore) date night at Graffiato.
We first tried Graffiato at their DC location almost two years ago, immediately fell in love with the caesar salad and then died and went to heaven when the Richmond location opened. It’s in a huge space, yet every time we’d been, we were seated upstairs, which we LOVED. It was dark, somewhat quiet, and overlooked the rest of the restaurant. During this last trip, we went during peak hours but the upstairs was closed due to low reservations (what?!) and we were seated downstairs where I was much less of a fan. The downstairs is louder, and we were sitting next to what I can only imagine was the most awkward Tinder date of all time, where at the end of the night the guy had two options “either you can pay for it, or we can go halfsies.” What? Dear god, I’m so glad I’ve never had to Tinder.
the DC mule = fav moscow mule
Unless you’re with a big(ger) crowd, I’d suggest asking to sit upstairs where you can hear the conversations at your own table. Or maybe I was just feeling cranky because the whole reason we were on a date that night is because we both had terrible days at work? Or maybe I’m always cranky? I digress. The food is amazing though – we shared the Porky’s Revenge pizza, a caesar salad, and the brussels sprouts, which are non-negotiable. You HAVE to get the brussels sprouts. For a few months, they took them off the menu and I was basically just dying inside and now they are back and everything is right in the world.
I know pizza is becoming quite the ‘thing’ in Richmond and I love Belmont just as much as the next person, but Graffiato is perfect when you want to eat a pizza and then some, and maybe put pants on and go out to dinner instead of the usual pizza-eating-routine of wearing sweatpants on the couch.
