Summer is f i n a l l y here and I’m the crazy person who thought it was a good idea to try an infrared sauna when it was 90 degrees outside. I actually somehow convinced Michael try it with me because I told him how good it was for your body and blah blah blah and made up a small fib about how it’s not THAT hot. 40 minutes of sitting in 140 degrees later, I left feeling 100x better. “I FEEL SO HEALTHY!” is actually what I said as I was dripping in sweat and driving down the road after.
Michael didn’t believe in the chromotherapy (light therapy) that you also get with the session, so he let me choose the colors. After a few rounds of cycling through each one, I was starting to feel a little crazy and settled on the violet – which helps with neurosis and felt pretty fitting since the changing lights were making me feel jittery.
Not only do you sweat your ass off, but you leave feeling refreshed and I felt the same as I do with a runner’s high. Minus the running! You can read more about the benefits of the sauna through Purify’s website here. The owner was working the day we made our appointment and the day we showed up, and she couldn’t have been more welcoming & kind to us. At $35/session, it’s not something I’ll be doing daily, but I’ll definitely be back for more.
I also picked up a bottle of Fire Cider – a mix of ACV, oranges, lemon, ginger, horseradish, haberno pepper, garlic and turmeric. I’m a sucker for this superfood stuff and it’s basically a more delicious way to get my morning shot of apple cider vinegar. ACV and turmeric have magical superhero benefits on their own, so I like being able to combine their healing powers.
Post detox, we refueled with the tastiest superfood breakfast @ Ellwood’s and I had a proud girlfriend moment when Michael ordered his first juice.

My long weekends used to consist of binge-eating and drinking, so it’s nice to kick off Memorial Day weekend with a burst of healthy eats and trying something new.
