With Christmas TOMORROW, even if its 70 degrees in Virginia, this post is a bit overdue, but still needed to be documented. I’m sorry to my loyal 10 readers for the delay.
If I had a bucket list written down, I would’ve for sure marked off a couple of things during the beginning of December.
A couple of months ago, Michael surprised me and told me he was taking me to New York and we could either go the weekend before the Rockefeller tree lighting or the weekend after. Silly question, right? December 4th, a couple of days after they lit the tree, we took a train from Richmond to Penn Station and I was the happiest girl in the world. It was my first experience on a real train, and I was so excited to see that the seats were cloth and the bathrooms didn’t make me want to vomit. Yes, it is physically impossible for me to hold it for 6 waking hours, so one YouTube video to prepare myself later, I went for it.
Columbus Circle Holiday Market, into Times Square, and eventually taking the subway over to Brooklyn for dinner at Paulie Gee’s. I got the Greenpoint Benedict (mozzarella, spinach, canadian bacon & hollandaise drizzle) and Michael got the Ricotta Be Kiddin’ Me (mozzarella, canadian bacon, italian fennel sausage, basil & ricotta). Erin’s pizza, the Cherry Jones, was something that I would probably never order on my own just by reading the description, but it was hands down my favorite of the night (but also possibly my life.) The restaurant itself was rustic, adorable and dark, lit mostly by candles and Christmas lights, which made it the cutest pizza place I’ve ever been to.
Levain Bakery before the line got too long. Michael had told me about their giant cookies from his last trip, and after seeing more pictures of them online, I immediately started obsessing over them, much like most other edible things I see online. I got a too-small coffee & the dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie that I ended up saving — until we got home to Richmond because sometimes even I know when I’ve eaten too much. We had blueberry pancakes back at the apartment before heading out for a long day of adventures – 23,000 steps worth, according to my trusty little Fitbit!
Stay tuned for the second (and final recap) of the rest of our weekend!
