Michael said that he had the perfect place in mind and made reservations without telling either me or his mom where we’d be going. She feeds us the best meals every week so I was glad she’d be joining us as we celebrated this! I had a couple of ideas of where it could be just based on random places I had been spouting off whenever a new craving struck. Family Meal? Mamma Zu? The Roosevelt? I’ve been wanting to visit Portico ever since my bestie Christy told me it was her favorite little hidden date spot, and Michael told me that they have the best little patio. God knows this girl loves to eat outside.
A new dress and two hours worth of a failed attempt to make beachy waves in my hair with a flat iron later, I was ready for our surprise dinner on Saturday. Siri blew his cover when she decided to announce where we were getting directions to and as soon as she said “getting directions to Portico,” my face lit up and I was the most excited ever.
Holy magical adorable restaurant. Its tucked away on a back road and looks like it used to be a little cottage. The dining room is small, the kitchen is actually separate from the restaurant and he was right: the best little patio. We ordered two appetizers, I ordered a glass of rose, stuffed shrimp (I’m not a huge fan of crab and this was still one of the best dishes I’ve ever had!) and of course, cheesecake for dessert. They grow their own herbs in the garden out back and after dinner we took a little walk to check it out. Twinkly lights are the way to my heart… always.
Not only was this one of the most delicious meals of all time, it made me extra happy that my sweet boyfriend came up with the idea on his own and kept it a surprise. I love a good surprise and Saturday was another one of those days that made me feel like one lucky lady. Thank you Michael for spoiling me rotten!
