After living in Richmond my entire life, and regretfully not even leaving for college, it’s no surprise that I’ve always wanted to uproot & move to a new city. I have no idea how to do such a drastic thing, so in the mean time, I constantly remind myself of all of the reasons why I love my city instead of focusing on the things that I don’t like. To be fair, there actually isn’t really much that I don’t like, I just would like to spice up my life a little. In New York. Or Chicago. Or California. Or Seattle. You get the point.
This past weekend, on a whim I decided to go see an outdoor play at Dogwood Dell, an outdoor amphitheater a couple of minutes from my apartment. Again, since Michael was out of town, it was a girl’s night with his mom, her cousin, and myself, and we saw “Man of La Mancha.” I can’t tell you much about the story because honestly, I was too busy texting Michael to tell him how excited I was to be watching a play outside, that I missed the first scene and pretty much lost track of what was happening. HOWEVER. I loved that the weather was perfect and we were able to sit outside and watch this, and it was free! Laying in the grass is one of my favorite things in the world, so this was right up my alley and I was just happier than a bird with a french fry. At one point, I fell asleep & woke up to one of the characters practically screaming at my feet, but this was fine. Grandma needed to wake up anyway.
I think we’re finally at that part of summer where nights are pretty pleasant here and I don’t want to just lay around in the air conditioned living room complaining about the heat.
Richmond, you’re pretty okay.
